FLC Sustainable is a student project for FLC, a Brazilian fluorescent lamp company. Its major innovation comes from the use of recycled paper pulp, the same material used for egg packaging. The package consists of 2 elements: a case in which the lamp is enclosed and a recycled paper label attached by fittings only. The surrounds assure that it remains properly shut and inviolate.
The user’s interaction with the package is made easier by its longitudinal opening, which allows them to take a firm and safe grip on the bottom of the lamp. Also, the simplification of the label to focus on the most important information, including the use of vertical stripes on all sides of the packet in 2 distinct pulp tones to indicated the color of the light, ensures the accessiblility of the labelling.
The paper pulp case serves as a facilitator to the lamp’s recycling process, as it serves as a protective structure for the discard of non-functioning lamps, guaranteeing that pollutant materials such as mercury are not released after use.
